Caroling-December 19, 2012

Our church folks went out for a night of Christmas Caroling and back to the church for a time of fellowship.  It is always a wonderfully fun time for our church folks and the community as we deliver fruit baskets as we go singing.

The Unspeakable Gift…The Living Word

2 Corinthians 9:15; John 1:14

This past Friday in New Town, CT. there was a mass shooting at Sandy Hook Elementary School.  There was tragic loss of life, young children, teachers, and administrators.  In the wake of such tragedies we are forced to move from a place of comfortable life to the reality that life is a fragile gift.  There will be questions in the days, weeks, and months ahead as to what happened and what we as a country will do to make our schools and lives safer from tragedy?  But now in this moment we are left as pastors, leaders, and people of faith to deal with grief and loss in the wake of this unspeakable tragedy.

“Thanks be to God for His unspeakable gift” (2 Cor. 9:15).  It is just in such times of unspeakable tragedy that God has given us an unspeakable gift.  That gift is not just for this time but for all time, that gift is His Son wrapped in flesh and bone.  That gift came and was born with a purpose to live as we do here on this earth to suffer as we do and then die in our place.  So the question this week might be asked by someone or perhaps you, “where is God in the midst of this tragedy”?  I do not believe that God caused this tragedy to happen. I believe He is there, suffering alongside those that suffer and in the midst of that suffering He does not speak a word but offers the unspeakable gift that is His presence, the Living Word to suffer alongside those that do.
