Week 1 Hope
When we look at hope, we think about the future and it encourages the present. Jesus is responding to a question of the Sadducees and one of the main points of their belief. The Sadducees do not believe in the resurrection and then offer a lengthy scenario concerning marriage and death as part of questioning Jesus.
Jesus first corrects their flawed theology. Jesus reminds them that things are different concerning death. The things and ways of this world are not necessarily going to be the same. The hope that Jesus goes on to share is that we are children of God and the resurrection. For the child of God death is not the end. Neither is death to be feared. God has not given up on us. Dear believer we too are his children and he is our God.
He points out if death were the end, then God would not be God to those who cease to exist. He is the God of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob. All dead to this earth but alive to God for they are with him. We too can look with hopeful expectation that God is still God both in time and eternity. He loves us, and we are his people and he is our God forever.
